A general problem of determining what might be called the ``average boundaries'' of statistical chains is solved formally. As a specific example, the average distance between the first link and the link (or links) which is farthest from the first link is calculated approximately for the case of a random chain. This value is only a small fraction greater than the average distance between the end links.
