Abstract

1) Seventeen early cases of T. gambiense sleeping sickness have been treated with Berenil at a dose rate of 2 mg./kg. body weight. 2) Cure was effected in 16 of the patients. The 17th patient relapsed and became an advanced case. He was subsequently cured with Antrypol and tryparsamide. 3) Thirty-one cases treated with pentamidine as controls fared badly. At the follow-up 1 year after treatment two patients had relapsed clinically and others showed a deterioration in their condition by an increase either in the cell count or protein content of the C.S.F.
