The surgical approach to the treatment of obstructive epiphora is outlined and the importance of pre-operative dacryocystography emphasized. Conventional dacryocystography does not outline the lacrimal canaliculi adequately, and a method of dacryocystography is described for improved visualization of this part of the lacrimal system. The technique combines a distension method, to produce better contrast filling of the canaliculi, with subtraction macrography, which improves radiographic definition and provides bone-free visualization of the ducts.
