The Workshop analysed clinical‐cytogenetic correlations in adult patients with acute nonlymphocytic leukaemia (ANLL) with special regard to the following questions: (1) Is there an association between the clinical‐haematological diagnosis and a specific chromosome abnormality? (2)Is there a correlation between response to treatment and survival and a particular chromosome abnormality? (3) Is the presence of a chromosomal abnormality or the frequency of abnormal cells (i.e. all metaphases normal (NN), some metaphases normal (AN), no metaphases normal (AA)) predictive of survival or response to therapy? (4) Is there a karyotypic evolution during the course of the disease?
