Professors Rodney Million and Nicholas Cassisi of the University of Florida, Gainesville, have written and illustrated a superb volume on head and neck cancer that will at once become the standard of reference in that field. They have collaborated to write most of the chapters themselves and have chosen 17 other contributors who have dealt well with their special subjects. In their choice of contributors, the editors have been fortunate; ancillary chapters are well done and comprehensive. I particularly liked a perceptive and thorough analysis by Parsons on effects of irradiation on normal tissues. For the technique buff, the details of radiation field placement in the early chapters are a joy. The whys and wherefores are explained, as well as the hows. Such attention to detail is vital in this field, where thoroughness can mean the difference between successful treatment and a marginal recurrence or serious complication. Photographs and line
