Eine Sache der Bequemlichkeit: Schrock-Molybdänalkylidene zählen zu den bisher leistungsfähigsten Olefinmetathesekatalysatoren, ihre Empfindlichkeit gegen Luft und Feuchtigkeit verlangt aber eine Handhabung in der Handschuhbox oder durch Schlenk-Techniken. Dies lässt sich durch Verwendung der luftstabilen Phenanthrolin- oder Bipyridinaddukte umgehen. Die aktive Spezies kann durch Behandlung der Präkatalysatoren mit ZnCl2 in Toluol freigesetzt werden.
