A new type of hygrometer is described. Indications of relative humidity are given by changes of the electrical properties of anodized aluminium oxide layers. The calibration is independent of temperature from 0 to 80° C, and of the air speed. The instrument is extremely sensitive, and may be easily adapted for continuous recording and control. A theory accounting for the observations is outlined.
