A method of calculating the dose at any point in an X-ray field based on an empirical formula to represent the variation of scattered radiation dose with field radius given in the tables of Mayneord and Lamerton is described. Values of the constants involved are tabulated, and also values of the integrals required for circular and rectangular fields. Examples of the method are given together with examples of calculated isodose curves. The accuracy with which the method represents the basic Mayneord and Lamerton data is discussed. The application to the computation of integral dose (energy absorption) is briefly sketched.
