In the past the authors advanced a macroscopic model that connects defect parameters of solids with the bulk modulus. Recently, the formation volume of vacancies was measured by Macrander in solid krypton. The value agrees with that calculated from the macroscopic model in conjunction with the experimental enthalpy measured by Losee and Simmons and thus provides a rigorous test of the model.
