Abstract

The aims and methods of this clinical trial were described in the first three Interim Progress Reports (1963; 1964; 1968). The present report proposes a modification so as to obtain central assessment of pathological specimens. The third and fourth Interim Progress Reports (1970; 1971) gave short-term results, both for normal-tissue reactions and crude survival rate, from the limited number of patients which had been followed up for at least one year. The present Interim Progress Report also gives short-term results. The long-term results on normaltissue reactions, recurrence rate, and survival rate will, of course, not be available for several years.
