Nimm den direkten Weg: Furfural wurde durch sequenzielle Transferhydrierung und Hydrolysereaktionen in Gegenwart Lewis- und Brønsted-saurer Zeolith-Katalysatoren in γ-Valerolacton (GVL) überführt (siehe Bild). Eine Kombination von Zr-Beta und Al-MFI (als Nanoschichten) ergab GVL in 78 % Ausbeute ohne den Einsatz von Edelmetallen oder molekularem H2.
