Entschiedener Übergang: Ein kleiner Unterschied im Winkel eines zweizähnigen Liganden (siehe Schema) führt zur Bildung inkommensurabler Komplexstrukturen (M12L24 und M24L48). Der M12L24/M24L48-Wechsel wurde aus dem empirischen Grenzwert des Ligandwinkels vorhergesagt, der durch ein Ligandenmischexperiment bestimmt wurde.
