Abstract

I am familiar with Dr Woodburne's excellent book,Essentials of Human Anatomy, since I have recommended it to my students for several years. Dr Woodburne was the only author of the first book, which was published in 1957. This eighth edition is presented to us with a coauthor, Dr William E. Burkel, who is a true gross anatomist with more than a quarter of a century of experience at the University of Michigan. Together they form a solid team. The task of both authors of this edition is to incorporate old and new information and to present to the student a more complete book. In this eighth edition they have done a splendid job. The writing is smooth and flowing, and the number of figures is enough to explain the anatomic entities that are terra incognita for the first-year student trying to learn a new language and a new science
