Die Morphologie von Gold-Nanopartikeln (GNPs) auf CeO2-Trägern und unter verschiedenen CO- und O2-Partialdrücken wird beschrieben; ihre Morphologie korreliert gut mit ihrer katalytischen Aktivität. Adsorbierte CO-Moleküle stabilisieren die {111}- und {100}-Flächen von GNP-Polyedern; O2-Moleküle dissoziieren an den GNP-CeO2-Grenzflächen unter Elektronenbestrahlung, was zu runden GNPs führt (siehe Diagramm).
