Abstract

FEW medical disorders can command the respect for age so clearly attributed to renal-stone disease. Nearly every tome on medical history recounts the well known antiquity of this malady. Nevertheless, the etiology, pathogenesis and successful therapy of stone disease remain poorly understood and inaccurately devised. The last five years have seen a rebirth of interest in renal-stone disease, with two international symposia being devoted to ongoing studies in the field.
