Die intra- und intermolekulare Titelreaktion wird von einer in situ erzeugten Ammonium(hypo)iodit-Spezies katalysiert. Sowohl H2O2 als auch tert-Butylhydroperoxid (TBHP) können als umweltverträgliches Oxidationsmittel verwendet werden, und ein breites Spektrum von Substraten reagiert zu den jeweiligen α-Acyloxycarbonyl-Verbindungen in guter bis hervorragender Ausbeute.
