Abstract Problems of net radiation transfer in enclosures involve proper accounting of all the interreflections of radiation beams. This is shown to be equivalent to the solution of electrical networks made up of conductances which are fully determined by surface-shape factors, reflectivities, and transmissivities of the system elements. The scope of the analysis is restricted to diffuse radiation within enclosures consisting of gray surfaces and containing gray gases, but the method is applicable to heat transfer as well as to illumination problems, and it can be extended to include other modes of heat transfer and energy transformation.
