Abstract

Abstract In the light of the paucity of documentation about the genesis and development of Modotti's photographic vision, this statement, made two-and-a-half years after she began taking pictures, offers remarkable insight into her objectives. In this short passage, Modotn not only declares her total commitment to photography, but she articulates her ambition: to transform the tangible into the intangible, to transmute matter into ideology. Modotti's oeuvre bears out a record of her success.
