Because of their lightweight, friendly processing and acoustic insulation, green composites have been used widely ranging from aerospace sector to household applications. The end-of-life concern with many polymeric composites has also limited their application spectrum. The green composites not only replace the traditional materials such as steel and wood but also challenge certain nonbiodegradable polymer composites. The present research initiative aims at highlighting the issues and challenges in the development and characterization of poly lactic acid–based green composites. A few of these important composites and their mechanical properties (tensile, compressive, flexural, and impact strength) have been reported in this study. The focus is the identification of the possible areas for their novel applications. A study has been conducted to categorize the various types of green composites on the basis of their physical, chemical, and mechanical characteristics.1e:T4bb,Polylactide (PLA)/nano-TiO₂ and PLA/nano-TiO₂/nano-Ag blends films were prepared by a solvent volatilization method. Compared to pure PLA film, the nano-blend films have low water vapor permeability (WVP) and a poor transparency. With the increase of the NPs in the PLA, the tensile strength (TS) and elastic modulus (EM) decreased, while the elongation at break (ε) increased. SEM analysis indicated a rougher cross-section of the nano-blend films. According to the FTIR analysis, no new chemical bonds were formed in the nano-blend films. By using DSC to examine the crystallization and melting behavior, the result shows that the NPs have no effect on the glass transition (T_g) and melting temperature (T_m), but they caused an increase on the cold crystallization (T_c) and crystallinity (X_c). TGA results show that the addition of nanoparticles significantly improved the thermal stability. The PLA nano-blend films show a good antimicrobial activity against. E. coli and Listeria monocytogenes. Most important, we carried out migration tests, and verified that the release of NPs from the nano-blend films was within the standard limits.1f:T552,Abstract Bamboo fibers in the form of strips and dust were treated with NaOH solution of varying concentration (10, 15, and 20%). These treated and untreated samples were then subjected to FTIR and morphological studies. Again XRD study was carried out on those treated and untreated bamboo samples in both strip and dust form. It was found that during alkali treatment a lattice transformation from cellulose‐I to cellulose‐II took place. It is observed from IR index value that the conversion is maximum in between 15 and 20% of alkali treatment. Swelling in NaOH introduces considerable changes in crystallinity, orientation angle, etc. Degree of crystallinity and crystallinity index for bamboo strips increases with increasing treatment concentration of alkali and falls off after 15% alkali concentration. This is also supported by d ‐spacing value. Orientation factor f x was calculated from the FWHM and it was found that f x value has been increased from 0.9879 to 0.9915 for 15% alkali treated and again lowered to 0.8522 for 50
