Abstract

In this study, the synthesis of the composite based on the poly(benzaldehyde-co-thiophene) and tin dioxide with different percentage of SnO2 (3, 7, and 10%) was performed through chemical oxidative polymerization technique, which is confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. Based on the optical spectra, the copolymer has an optical bandgap energy, Eg = 2.30 eV. The results show a decrease in the optical gap energy with the increase in the percentage of SnO2 from 3 to 7 and to 10%. Electrical conductivity study indicates that conductivity of polymer alone is in the range of ~3.40 × 10–4 S/cm. This value increases with up to 3.95 × 10–3 S/cm for the sample containing 3% of SnO2, then the electrical conductivity decreases with increase in the content of SnO2 in the other two samples.
