Abstract

This report is a user guide for the streamflow-hydrograph analysis methods provided with version 1.0 of the U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Toolbox. These include six hydrograph-separation methods to determine the groundwater-discharge (base-flow) and surface-runoff components of streamflow-the Base-Flow Index (BFI; Standard and Modified), HYSEP (Fixed Interval, Sliding Interval, and Local Minimum), and PART hydrograph-separation methods-and the RORA recession-curve displacement method and supporting RECESS program to estimate groundwater recharge from streamflow data. The performance of the program has been tested in a variety of applications, some of which are documented in this report. Future applications, however, might reveal errors that were not detected in the test simulations. Users are requested to notify the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) of any errors found in this report or the computer program.
