Abstract

Teaching visual diagramming techniques such as the UML class diagram is an important part of database modeling instruction. Visually impaired students, however, have difficulty using software tools such as Microsoft Visio, as the tools do not work well with screen reading software. This paper describes a simple method that allows visually impaired students to create class diagrams. An advantage of this method is that it is readily usable by sighted students, so that the visually impaired may work on teams with sighted students.
