Abstract

This report describes the progress of 49 World Safety Organization European countries in improving traffic safety and implementing recommendations provided in a traffic injury prevention report. The report notes that highway traffic injuries are the main cause of death among 5-29 year old individuals. In addition, cyclists, pedestrians, and riders of motorized two wheeled vehicles make up 39% of all traffic accident fatalities. Pedestrians are more at risk in the eastern parts of the region, and nations differ greatly in fatality rates, depending to some degree on income level of the country.
