Romantic partnership and family life are topics that are quite familiar to most of us. Yet we often find it difficult to see how our practices, roles and beliefs in this realm are related to broad social forces that differ across space and time. This course will help you to develop a sociological lens with which to see partnership and family dynamics. We will use focused discussions and news articles to learn from each other and to develop our abilities to understand family life from a broader perspective. You will have the option to do a service learning project in this course with our community partner, The Baby Fold.
