System Approach on Designing an Offshore Windpower Grid Connection

Abstract

Vast experiences of both AC and DC transmissions show that both technologies are available and feasible for connection of large offshore wind power plants to a grid. A supplier with experiences from both technologies and having all components would be able to assist in the choice of transmission and connection system. All mentioned realized examples are projects resulting from feasibility and detailed studies of discussions, calculations and bench marks to find system optima in a long and trustful cooperation with customers and internal and external sub-suppliers. The results prove the quality of the system optimization process.
