20:T433,Atomically precise enantiomeric metal clusters are scarce, and copper(I) alkynyl clusters with intense circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) responses have not been reported. A pair of chiral alkynyl ligands, (R/S)-2-diphenyl-2-hydroxylmethylpyrrolidine-1-propyne (abbreviated as R/S-DPM) we successfully prepared and single crystals were characterized of optically pure enantiomeric pair of atomically-precise copper(I) clusters, [Cu₁₄ (R/S-DPM)₈ ](PF₆ )₆ (denoted as R/S-Cu₁₄ ), which feature bright red luminescence and CPL with a high luminescence anisotropy factor (g_lum ). A dilute solution containing R/S-Cu₁₄ was nonluminescent and CPL inactive at room temperature. Crystallization- and aggregation-induced emission (CIE and AIE, respectively) contribute to the triggering of the CPL of R/S-Cu₁₄ in the crystalline and aggregated states. Their AIE behavior and good biocompatibility indicated applications of these copper(I) clusters in cell imaging in HeLa and NG108-15 cells.21:T4f0,Chiral cage compounds are mainly constructed from chiral precursors or based on the symmetry breaking during coordination-driven self-assembly. Herein, we present a strategy to construct chiral organic cages by restricting the P or M rotational configuration of tetraphenylethylene (TPE) faces through dynamic covalent chemistry. The combination of graph theory, experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations suggests emergent chirality of cages is originated from complex arrangements of TPE faces with different orientational and rotational configurations. Accompanied by the generation of chirality, strong fluorescence also emerged during cage formation, even in dilute solutions with various solvents. In addition, the circularly polarized luminescence of the cages is realized as a synergy of their dual chiral and fluorescence properties. Chirality and fluorescence of cages are remarkably stable, because intramolecular flipping of phenyl rings in TPE faces is restricted, as indicated by calculations. This study provides insight into construct chiral cages by the rational design through graph theory, and might facilitate further design of cages and other supramolecular assemblies from aggregation-induced emission active building blocks.22:T495,In this work, a facile ion-pairing strategy for asymmetric synthesis of optically active negatively charged chiral metal nanoparticles using chiral ammonium cations is demonstrated. A new thiolated chiral three-concentric-shell cluster, [Ag₂₈Cu₁₂(SR)₂₄]^4-, was first synthesized as a racemic mixture and characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure determination. Mass spectrometric measurements revealed relatively strong ion-pairing interactions between the anionic nanocluster and ammonium cations. Inspired by this observation, the as-prepared racemic mixture was separated into enantiomers by employing chiral quaternary ammonium salts as chiral resolution agents. Subsequently, direct asymmetric synthesis of optically active enantiomers of [Ag₂₈Cu₁₂(SR)₂₄]^4- was achieved by using appropriate chiral ammonium cations (such as N-benzylcinchoninium vs N-benzylcinchonidinium) in the cluster synthesis. These simple strategies, ion-pairing enantioseparation and direct asymmetric synthesis using chiral counterions, may be of general use in preparing chiral metal nanoparticles.
