Setting the Agenda: LGBTQ+ and SGM Family Communication

Abstract

We call for an expansion of research on the family communication of people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other diverse sexualities and gender identities (LGBTQ+), as well as sexual and gender minority people (SGM) who may not identify as LGBTQ+, such as those practicing polyamory. We provide direction on expanding LGBTQ+ and SGM family communication research and invite scholars to expand their programs of research to consider LGBTQ+ and SGM family communication. We also make suggestions for journal editors and reviewers regarding publishing practices.
