A previously proposed spatio-temporal equalizer that compensates for time-varying inter-symbol interference in underwater acoustic channels and its multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) extension that enables Mbps-class broadband MIMO transmission have now been field tested. A series of field experiments to explore the feasibility of Mbps-class transmission demonstrated that acoustic signals can be transmitted at more than 1 Mbps over tens of meters.
