Transition description and prediction in three-dimensional flows

Abstract

The first section of this paper is entitled 'leading edge problems' the consequences of three-dimensional mean flow are discussed in the context of transition taking place in the immediate vicinity of the leading edge of a swept wing. This is a situation where the transition process has particular engineering significance. The second section is entitled 'More General Considerations' and here the mechanisms and principles discussed under the first head are reexamined in relation to more complex situations and also to transition in compressible flows with heat transfer.
