The contribution of AVR to power engineering and the future development and applications in the Federal Republic of Germany is pointed out. The main emphases of the contributions are a retrospective and future perspectives, the AVR dynamic test, the physics of AVR, the components and materials, the procedure in operation and in the event of a reactor accident, the follow-up activities, and the future of HTRs.
