Abstract

This chapter of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Working Group II`s report focuses on the effects of climate change on the hydrological system of the world and its freshwater ecologies. The hydrology system is also affected by direct human activities such as deforestation, urbanisation and water-resource exploitation. Estimated physical and chemical changes in freshwater ecosystems are discussed together with changes in lake and stream biology. To reduce uncertainty in predicted change, research areas which need further clarification are highlighted. (UK)
