LSD modulates firing and burst-firing activity of reticular thalamus neurons and disinhibits mediodorsal thalamus relay neurons at least partially in a D<sub>2</sub>-mediated fashion. These effects of LSD on thalamocortical gating could explain its consciousness-altering effects in humans.
