Abstract EXPRESS has been used by the ISO STEP and other industry standard groups to define information models for design, manufacturing and other applications. When these models are mapped into a database system they can be used to define databases for concurrent engineering. We describe four mappings that were implemented for four database systems, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each from the perspective of the mapping implementor and the database user.
