The effect of load impedance on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) radiofrequency (RF) induced heating of active implantable medical device (AIMD) is investigated in this study. Six different load impedance configurations are considered for a generic AIMD structure. The absolute temperature rises were measured at the tip electrode for all AIMDs used in the study. It is shown that the temperature rise is strongly related to the load impedance inside the implantable pulse generator (IPG).
