Digital identities – self-sovereignty and blockchain are the keys to success

Abstract

The UK Government recently announced that it is looking to develop secure digital identities for citizens, following its long-awaited response to a call for evidence last year to seek views on a future policy around digital identities. 1 Following a review of information received from this call, the Government said it is looking to develop proposals for a legal framework to remove regulatory barriers that prevent the use of secure digital identities, and establish safeguards for citizens. It will also develop the next generation of digital identity use in government, and promote a pragmatic approach to international digital identity standards.
