Transitioning from the rotation-advancement repair to the anatomic subunit repair has resulted in improved lip aesthetics with decreased incidence of scar contracture, hypertrophy, and widening as evidenced by a decrease in the revision rate for these suboptimal scars. However, the rate of debulking procedures of the red vermilion did increase early in the adoption of the anatomic subunit repair, requiring minor modifications in the technique.
