Liver resection for colorectal metastases

Abstract

Liver resection is the only curative treatment for patients with colorectal metastases. The long-term survival reported in patients with resected colorectal metastases confined to the liver is comparable to primary surgery for solid gastrointestinal tumours. Every attempt must be made to increase the availability of liver resection to patients with hepatic metastases from colorectal cancer.
