Halogenations are the most important transformations in organic synthesis and can be carried out by several methods. In particular, the electrochemical reactions serve as an excellent method for the generation of reactive species under mild conditions which do not require large quantities of toxic or corrosive reagents. This review outlines the significant developments in the area of electrochemical methods over conventional in the synthesis of aryl halides, particularly in the recent two decades.
