A procedure is given for computing the average submergence time of the bow (or any selected point), and the average number of slams according to the definition given. Use is made of an alternative representation of Pierson's random process model of the sea surface and Korvin-Kroukovsky's equations of the response of a ship to a regular sea. An example of the application of the technique to a Series 60 model (0.60 block coefficient) is given.
