Research on Simulation Accuracy of Ultra-low Frequency Oscillation in Power System with High Proportion of Hydropower

Abstract

The ultra-low frequency oscillation (ULFO) is one of typical operational issues in power system with high proportion of hydropower. In this paper, the issue of ULFO in the Southwest China Power Grid (SCPG), which is a typical hydro-dominant power system, is introduced. Then, influencing factors of ULFO are studied, including load level, unit-operation capacity, spinning reserve capacity and proportion of thermal unit-operation capacity. The results provide a reference for the simulation accuracy of ULFO. The reproduction of tests in SCPG verify the accuracy of the simulation.
