The discovery of complex modes of propaga ion and the availability of high-speed computers served to revive an interest in the problem of wave propagation in isotropic elastic cylinders. The complex modes ended the search for a complete s t of stress functions which ar necessary to describe an arbitrary body force. The high-speed computer provides the means for investigation of a problem which is otherwise too complicated to analyze precisely. (Author)
