An improved confocal imaging algorithm is proposed for breast cancer detection using radar-based ultra wideband technology. The improvements consider a scenario of heterogeneous breast where the tumor is mostly located near the glandular tissue in the ductal region displaced from the center of the breast. The robustness of the algorithm is demonstrated using waveform sets generated from a simulated proposed system. The results showed that the use of the improvements provides better identification and localization of a tumor when considering a heterogeneous and dense breast with only 2% increase of computational cost.
