One-pot solvent-free synthesis of MgFe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub> nanoparticles from ferrous sulfate waste

This study proposed a one-pot solvent-free method to synthesize magnesium ferrite nanoparticles using ferrous sulfate waste as raw materials and provided a new idea for high-quality use of ferrous sulfate waste and was promising to be applied in industrialization. Magnesium ferrite nanoparticles (MgFe2O4) were successfully synthesized by a solid-reduction method using ferrous sulfate waste, pyrite and Magnesium carbonate as raw materials. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method, and superconducting quantum interference device magnetometer were applied to determine the characteristics of obtained samples. The mechanism of synthesizing magnesium ferrite was studied by TGA.
