A defect engineering strategy is proposed to synthesize carbon foam supported oxygen vacancy-enriched SnO<sub>x</sub> nanosheets as a promising monolithic electrode for electrocatalytic reduction of CO<sub>2</sub> to formate with high activity and selectivity.
