On the Maximum Thrust of Sails by Sailing Close to Wind

Abstract

The maximum thrust of sails when sailing close to wind is discussed. The influence of the gap between sails and hull and the influence of a reduction of the heeling force and the heeling moment on the maximum thrust are considered. Numerical results are given.
