Radar-Communication Integrated Neighbor Discovery for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract

Neighbor discovery is an essential step in the initialization of wireless ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a novel radar-communication integration enabled neighbor discovery algorithm which makes full use of the location information of neighbors provided by radar detection. In order to improve energy efficiency, the proposed scheme is able to avoid the repetition of neighbor discovery attempts in the directions without potential neighbors. Then, we derive mathematical expressions of the upper and lower bounds for the energy saving. Numerical results show that the proposed neighbor discovery scheme could save energy efficiently.
