• Teachers’ responses reveal beliefs about generalizability/transferability of research findings and research culture. • Many teachers did not feel included in a research culture in their schools and districts. • Teachers’ discomfort with uncertainty may lead to low uptake and use of research. • Greater transparency and support by administrators may increase teachers’ agentic participation, including research use. • Research liaisons, who curate and tailor research, may increase teachers’ uptake and use of research.
