A hybrid IL-based electrolyte consisting of P<sub>1,2O1</sub>TFSI and the support solvent(s) of DOL and/or ETFE was applied in Li–S batteries, and a rational balance between Li<sub>2</sub>S<sub>x</sub> dissolution and Li protection to achieve controllable shuttle was proposed.
