In this paper, a permeability invariance phenomenon with a controlled lift-off is found and investigated. It is discovered that at certain lift-off, the impact of permeability on inductance is eliminated/reduced. Based on this phenomenon, a novel electrical conductivity measurement technique for ferrous plates is proposed. The proposed approach is verified by both simulation and experimental data. Moreover, the conductivity is estimated with reasonable accuracy (with an error of 2%) by the proposed approach without the influence of its permeability.
