Health-related quality of life and survival among 10-year survivors of esophageal cancer surgery: gastric tube reconstruction versus whole stomach reconstruction

Abstract

Because of a better long-term survival (P=0.027), gastric tube reconstruction may be a better choice for patients undergoing oncologic esophagectomy. HRQL recovers to a level comparable in most patients who survive 10 years after esophagectomy for cancer, although some digestive tract symptoms, like dysphagia, may last during the whole postoperative period and represent a poor prognosis.
